Engineering Internship Opportunities

Sun Hydraulics Corporation in Sarasota, FL has paid engineering internship opportunities available for summer 2018. We generally try to fill the summer openings by spring break. In order to be considered, resumes should be received by Greg Glass (GregG@SunHydraulics.com) by February 24, 2018.

Postgraduate engineering internships are available for international students that would train in Sarasota before returning to their home country where Sun has a facility (China, South Korea, UK and Germany) for full-time employment. Summer internships are also available for similar international students.

First-time summer interns

As a first summer intern, engineering students work in manufacturing assembling and testing valves. Interns are assigned either a design or manufacturing engineer to act as a mentor. Mentors organize activities to further enhance the experience such as tours of local manufacturers that supply components to Sun Hydraulics and tours of local Sun Hydraulics distributor (reseller). Junior and senior level students are offered an introductory hydraulics class. There is one-on-one time with leadership at Sun. The internship offers the opportunity to see not only how the different engineering classes are applied in a manufacturing and engineering business but also an opportunity to learn how the business operates as a whole. Toward the end of the internship, we ask interns to give group presentations suggesting improvements that they may have identified for processes, tooling, etc.

Returning Interns

Returning Sun Hydraulics’ interns have the opportunity to work in different manufacturing areas as well as work in one of the engineering groups.

Hands on, self-motivated students from mechanical, mechatronic, mechanical engineering technology, agriculture, electrical/electronic, computer science, and industrial engineering programs are encouraged to apply. Undergraduate and graduate students that have had fluid power or hydraulics course work are especially encouraged to apply.

Previous internship experience in a manufacturing environment is useful, but not necessary.  Our preference is for students from the south east United States or at least students who have an interest in an engineering career working in Florida. Typically freshman and sophomore engineering students will gain valuable experience by working in manufacturing areas.

The three month, summer internship is the beginning step toward future employment at Sun Hydraulics after graduating from an engineering program.

Please send your resume to Greg Glass no later than February 24, 2018.
